Composer Pro reached a new level of success recently with a #4 ranking in the iPad app Book category during a one-day availability as a free app. Thousands of newcomers were welcomed into the family of Composer developers, story writers, character creators, and book illustrators from a growing industry of interactive books.
Searching for a new development tool
I discovered Composer Pro through a Lynda.com video called The Creative Spark: Stacey Williams-Ng, Interactive Book Designer where Stacey demonstrated some of the app’s capabilities. A quick search in the Apple App Store revealed Composer Pro in another free app promotion period, so I downloaded it and started testing out this captivating tool.
Just the week prior, I was in search of a development tool to add more interactivity to my company’s eLearning courses.
Yes. You read it correctly. I’m an eLearning developer for a very large technology company. The typical software used in the eLearning development industry consists mainly of Adobe Captivate and Articulate’s Studio and Storyline.
My intial search was trying to solve two problems:
1. How can I create fully animated interactions without resorting to complicated Actionscript coding in Adobe Flash?
2. How can I make these interactions available on a mobile platform?
The right tool for a different job
How lucky can a person get to find an interactive development tool for a mobile platform….IN a mobile device? My first question was, “Can Composer Pro be used to create eLearning courses?”
I sent my inquiry off to Demibooks only to receive a very fast response from the company’s CEO. After a few phone conversations and a meeting with the team at the Chicago office, the answer to my question became extremely clear.
“Let’s flex Composer and see what happens!”
Taking the journey together
Whether you are a seasoned Composer veteran or downloaded a free copy just for the fun of it, let’s take this journey together and find out if the Composer family of apps is more than just an incredible, interactive book development app.
