It’s that time of the New Year when the publishing world congregates in New York for Digital Book World. Day One just started today, but we’ve already had a busy few days so here’s a quick update on our travels so far. My road trip started last weekend with a quick stop into Las Vegas to visit generic cialis with our partners on the awesome Usborne Books and More (UBAM) sales team. UBAM was having it’s annual Leadership Retreat, and Vegas seems like a great place to stop in for a day in January. Except it was colder in Vegas than in Chicago, but I don’t want to take up this entire post ranting about climate change. The UBAM team uses a direct to consumer model to sell Usborne and Kane Miller print products for EDC through the web, home shows, and book fairs at school and libraries. As of last summer, they are also began promoting Demibooks Storytime. We reviewed the latest Storytime product updates, marketing techniques and newly launched titles on Storytime. From Kane Miller these included the very fun Jonathan James and the What If Monster, the current top selling UBAM print and Storytime book, as well as the new counting app 1,2,3..By the Sea. We levitra 20mg also went over Mary Jane Begin’s Before I Go To Sleep and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, both just published by Demibooks. There is nothing else in the publishing industry like the UBAM sales team that I know of. With a reach of around 7000 consultants, it’s a unique way to try to increase digital sales and we have great expectations for 2013 and beyond.
Discoverability, Platforms, Personalization and oh btw, who owns the Story?
After a quick stop back into Chicago, it was on to New York for Publishers Launch Kids on Tuesday. A power packed lineup of speakers included both the established old guard as well as emerging disruptors. Publishers Launch usually does not feature earlier stage startups, and that is by design. Kristen McLean of @Bookigee and Carl Kulo of Bowker shared market trends from children’s publishing. It’s great to see Kristen play a larger role in both Publisher’s Launch and Tools of Change conferences, she brings great experience and passion to everything she does.
